The Fred G. Dale Planetarium will present five planetarium shows Saturday, July 13. The shows begin at noon.
In conjunction with the Wayne Chicken Show, Wayne State College will present five planetarium shows Saturday, July 13. Admission is free and open to the public, but free-will donations are accepted.
The show “Astronaut” will begin the day at noon, followed by “Earth, Moon, and Sun” at 1 p.m., “Oasis in Space” at 2 p.m., and “My House Has Stars” at 3 p.m. The shows conclude at 4 p.m. with “STARS.”
In “Astronaut,” audience members will experience a rocket launch from inside the body of an astronaut and learn what is involved with becoming an astronaut.
“Earth, Moon, and Sun” will explore the relationship between the Earth, moon, and sun.
“Oasis in Space” will transport the audience on a startling and beautiful voyage through the universe, galaxy, and solar system in search of liquid water, a key ingredient for life on Earth.
In “My House Has Stars,” the audience will learn how children across the world view the wonders of the night sky.
In “STARS,” audience members will journey to the farthest reaches of our galaxy and experience both the awesome beauty and destructive power of stars.
The planetarium is located on the lowest level of Wayne State’s Carhart Science Building. Guests should use the southwest doors to enter. Once inside, go to the stairs at the south end of the building and go down to the lowest level. You may also take the elevator. Carhart Science and the planetarium are handicap accessible.
Doors open 20 minutes prior to the start of a show and shows generally include a tour of the current night sky, a view of the constellations, and a full dome video.
